Full Name: Claire Powis

Classes Taught: Grades 6 – 11 Mathematics

About me: I enjoy teaching and love to find ways of making my subject interesting and enjoyable for my students, as well as helping them to achieve the best possible results. In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking and travelling. I like to visit different countries and experience different cultures – I have visited ten countries within the last year, and am looking forward to exploring more of Kazakhstan while I am working here.

Teaching Experience: I graduated from Southampton University with a Bachelor of Education Honours degree in Mathematics and Education. I have been teaching mathematics for 26 years and have been a Head of Department, Mathematics Examiner and write for mathematics text books. I have also been awarded ‘Advanced Skills Teacher’ status for excellent results and teaching methods, and enjoy working with students and with other teachers to find different and interesting ways of teaching my subject. I have coached/mentored both new and experienced teachers to help them develop their teaching methods.
